The pervasive thought seems to be that one can get away by making jokes about Barrack Obama being a Muslim as long as they are being liberal. On the December 10 Christmas-themed episode of 30 Rock a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it joke about Barack Obama being a Muslim was made .In the scene, Kenneth the page (Jack McBrayer) has organized a Secret Santa exchange. While talking to Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) who is the star of the show within the show, Kenneth explained, “These are my all inclusive holiday decorations. Here’s a little Christmas tree…A menorah. A picture of President Obama- for the Muslims.” Jordan then gave him a startled look and replied, “Gonna let that one slide.”

Also back in 2008, an episode of30 Rock had a subplot featuring Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), who plays the program’s (show within the show) TV executive launched a celebrity ad campaign to stop African Americans from voting. So seemingly, this NBC show gets away with it, for showing such issues in a liberal fashion. But it is hard to imagine a conservative program or any talk show making a joke about Obama being a secret Muslim. Could they have gotten away with it so easily?

“TRACY JORDAN” (TRACY MORGAN): What’s with all the junk, Ken?

“KENNETH PARCELL” (JACK MCBRAYER): These are my all inclusive holiday decorations. Here’s a little Christmas tree.

JORDAN: Okay.

PARCELL: A menorah. A picture of President Obama- for the Muslims.

JORDAN: Gonna let that one slide.
